Coral Disease Treatment Specialist Level I

Under the direction of the Center for Marine and Environmental Studies (CMES) and the director of the UVI Coral Reef Health Laboratory, the Marine Disease Specialists will provide technical support for coral disease treatment and research activities and be an active member of the research team within the Center for Marine and Environmental Studies at UVI. The candidates are expected to work primarily on coral disease treatments and coral reef monitoring projects. The successful candidates will also contribute to outreach and education activities and provide support for scientific experiments focused on coral disease.
a) Scientific SCUBA diving credentials and experience
b) Bachelor’s degree in biology, marine biology, or related field or equivalent experience
c) Small boating certifications and/or demonstrated experience with driving small boats
d) Demonstrated knowledge and experience in coral disease treatments
e) Demonstrated strong marine field research skills
f) Demonstrated ability to work in team settings and meeting tight deadlines with tangible deliverables
g) Demonstrated experience working in remote, field-based conditions.
h) Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills and ability to work with a range of clients and collaborators, including students, faculty, staff, professionals, organizations, and the general public
i) Strong desire to learn new skills and tools and receive instruction and training.

(c) Technical diving credentials and experience
(d) Demonstrated mentoring experience
Should be able to lift 50 pounds, perform strenuous activity, and be willing to work outside of standard workdays and in disagreeable conditions.
