The incumbent provides the principal management support to the office of the Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM) in the Executive Office as the DCM's Secretary at U.S. Embassy Georgetown in the Controlled Access Area (CAA). The position requires knowledge of administrative and clerical support, operations of Foreign Service posts and bureaus in the Department, and office management skills, as well as management of VIP visits and meetings and representational events. In the absence of the Ambassador’s Office Management Specialist (OMS), the DCM’s Secretary acts as back-up and assumes all duties assigned of the OMS. Historically, the person in this position has been the Chargé d’Affaires’ Secretary for extended periods of time.
Qualifications and Evaluations
Two (2) years office management experience or other experience demonstrating the ability to perform functions of a Secretary is required.
Two-year college degree is required.
LANGUAGE: Level IV (Fluent) Speaking/Reading English is required.

Must be able to manage multiple demands at once – phone calls, email, taskings, office and appointments.
Must be able to task Embassy staff on time-sensitive, high-visibility, protocol-sensitive assignments.
Must be able to ensure the appropriate safeguarding and dissemination of classified reporting delivered daily to the Executive Office.
Must be able to find innovative solutions to practical problems.
Must be able to plan, organize and prioritize complex tasks to meet tight deadlines.
Must be able to prioritize and handle several different tasks and maintain a high standard of performance while under pressure.
Must be able to find information quickly using written and on-line sources on the internet and to distinguish reliable from unreliable information.
Must be able to write logically and clearly, developing and expressing ideas effectively, while following the general rules of standard written English.
Must be able to proofread documents written by others.
Must be able to mix easily with people both within and outside one’s social or cultural group.
Must be able to work well with colleagues.
Must be able to exercise tact and good judgment in dealing with senior government officials, as well as the general public.
Must have strong computer skills to use Microsoft Office programs.
Must be able to type at 40 w.p.m. level II.
